Food 'N Justice Campaign
Rural Coalition's grassroots policy campaign promotes comprehensive food, farm,
labor, immigration and trade policies in Congress to build a more equitable and
sustainable food system for small and limited resource farmers and ranchers,
farmworkers, rural communities, consumers and the environment. The Campaign for
a Just Food and Farm Policy began to mobilize members and
grassroots
communities to affect change in the
2002 Farm Bill. Although 2002 is well behind us, work around the campaign
is still going strong. Today we continue to work with Congress and
USDA not only toward the implementation of
the Farm Bill wins (note within this document regarding link), but for additional
changes needed to create a sustainable and equitable food system and to resolve
injustices of the past done to small, minority
and limited resource farmers and ranchers, and farm workers. Learn about our
ongoing work for Food n' Justice in the
Policy Center.

2002 Farm Bill
In preparation for the 2002 Farm Bill Campaign, the Rural Coalition, Missouri
Rural Crisis Center and Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance
Fund conducted a grassroots-based research project to gather input from our
members on agriculture, and farm policies, programs and services. From these
findings, our members have proposed the comprehensive food and farm policy
presented in our
Policy
Paper. (See a
Review of the Farm Bill and additional
work on the 2002 Farm Bill)
Our campaign is centered around the belief that widely held ownership
of land and equitable participation in decision making are fundamental
tenants of a democratic society. Together we are working to develop a
powerful public message that equity, diversity, care of the earth and
justice are central to a global agriculture and food system that is sustainable,
viable, just and which provides high quality affordable food to all. Read
